How do I get realistic motion blur or splash effects for my product photos in AI images?

Quick Answer
Generate the splash or motion blur in the same render as the product, not as a layer on top. In Nightjar, pick a photography style that uses fast-shutter or long-exposure language, then add a written direction such as "water splash mid-air around the bottle" or "motion blur trailing the product." The wet reflections, rim light, and droplet physics are baked into the same scene as the product.
Why pasting an effect on top looks fake
Compositing a splash or blur onto a finished photo rarely matches. The light direction is wrong, the wet reflections on the product do not exist, and the displaced droplets ignore the product's geometry. The motion or splash needs to be part of the same render as the product so the physics, shadows, and reflections all agree with the lighting in the scene.
How to build the effect into a new render
Nightjar separates the photographic look (camera feel, lighting, shutter language, mood) into a reusable Photography Style, and refines a single Generation with Custom Directions, written instructions layered on top of the Style. For motion or splash work the two pair up like this:
- Open the Product Listing Image Workflow in Create and upload your product Asset.
- Pick a Photography Style that already speaks the right photographic language: high-key splash with rim light, dark editorial action with frozen droplets, or long-exposure motion with light trails. Photography Styles control camera feel, lighting, mood, color, and atmosphere, which is what makes the effect read as physical rather than pasted. Choose from the curated library or build a custom Style from reference Assets of splash or motion photography you admire.
- Add Custom Directions to describe the specific motion you want, for example "frozen water splash wrapping around the bottle, droplets catching the rim light," "fast-shutter freeze of liquid pouring against a black background," or "subtle motion blur on the trailing edge while the product stays sharp."
- Generate four to six candidates so you can pick the one where the splash density, droplet placement, or blur length feel right.
Save the working setup as a Recipe, a Team-owned reusable Create-form setup, so the same splash or motion treatment can be applied to the next product without rebuilding the brief.
Adding motion or splash to an existing photo
If the product already lives in a finished image, use the Edit tab. Add the Asset to the board, reference it as @image1, and write a plain-English instruction such as "add a frozen water splash wrapping around @image1, with droplets catching the existing rim light and small wet reflections on the surface of the bottle." Nightjar renders the splash into the same lighting environment as the original Asset rather than pasting it on top.
