How do I blend my product into a stock photo or background image realistically?

Published November 24, 2025

Quick Answer

The best way to blend a product into a stock photo is with Nightjar's "Product Placement" tool. Unlike Photoshop, where you have to manually paint shadows and fix colors, Nightjar reads the lighting in your background photo and automatically re-lights your product to fit perfectly.

The Problem: Why "Cut and Paste" looks fake

If you just paste a product cutout onto a stock photo, it looks like it's floating. This happens because:

  1. Wrong Shadows: The shadow doesn't match the light in the room.
  2. Wrong Color Tone: The background might be warm (sunset), but your product is cool (studio light).
  3. Wrong Reflection: The product doesn't reflect the world around it.

Nightjar solves this by calculating exactly how the light from your stock photo should hit your product.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Prepare your Assets

  • The Product: A high-quality image of your product.
  • The Background: Your stock photo or AI-generated background.

2. Upload your Product Image Upload your product image to Nightjar. We will remove the background for you if needed.

3. Select Product Placement Workflow Click on "Product Placement" in the list of options.

4. Upload your Background Image Upload your stock photo in the "Scene or Background Image" spot. This is where your product will go.

5. Add Optional Instructions Tell Nightjar where to put the product. For example:

  • "Place the product on the table surface"
  • "Position the item in the center"
  • "Place near the window"

6. Configure Settings

  • Aspect Ratio: Choose the size you want.
  • Output Format: Choose JPEG or PNG.

7. Generate the Blend Click "Place Product". Nightjar will:

  • Read the lighting of your background.
  • Place your product with real shadows.
  • Match the colors.
  • Add reflections.
  • Make it look like it was always there.
